Emergency Preparedness & Response

Human Health Risk Assessment

CSS offers the full range of environmental toxicology services for Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) – including hazard identification, toxicology assessment, exposure assessment, and risk characterization – to evaluate concerns to human health and the environment.  We conduct and evaluate studies on the movement, metabolism, degradation, and fate of a broad range of chemicals including pesticides, herbicides, and other agricultural and industrial chemicals, as well as those produced from naturally occurring sources such as harmful algal blooms.

IT Services

CSS provides custom, turn-key Information Technology solutions that meet both the simple and critical needs of an evolving organization. Satellite Data Applications

Earth observations by satellite provide critical data for monitoring and measuring changes to in our planet’s aquatic, terrestrial, and climatic environments, as well as man-made infrastructure and focal points. Sifting through these data, and understanding their power is essential to identifying vulnerabilities and developing forward-thinking solutions to address end-user needs.

Analytical Laboratory Support for Mass Transit Decontamination Research

CSS helped advance EPA’s body of knowledge for restoring subway systems after a biological incident.

Operation and Maintenance of High Throughput Mobile Laboratory Units

Analytical Support for EPA’s Consequence Management Advisory Division (CMAD) – CSS operates and maintains 10 mobile analytical laboratories under contract with EPA’s Office of Emergency Management.

Predictive Modeling and the HABTracker

CSS scientists helped develop HABTracker, a HAB Forecast system.

Ecologically Sound Offshore Wind Development

CSS helps set the standards for suitability modeling for offshore wind development, and assists in meeting regulatory standards for environmental resource protection.

Predictive Modeling/Spatial Planning, NY Bight

CSS designed and implemented this integrated data acquisition, data management, and statistical predictive modeling to select optimal wind farm locations while minimally impacting seabirds.

Real-time HABs Detection and Modeling

We develop and deploy the sensors and monitor in real-time, HABs activities to support immediate response.

Cyber Security 

CSS develops and implements security programs that continuously meet rigorous security compliance requirements on behalf of its customers. 

Development support of NOAA/NOA OceanReports

CSS’s Team helped create the OceanReports web-based tool that assists in the analysis of coastal and marine resources for commerce, development, and conservation.

IT Support to NOAA Fisheries

Our IT services support included developing and integrating information management systems central to NOAA Fisheries’ management and protection of living marine resources and their habitats

Red Hill Drinking Water Crisis

CSS supported the U.S. EPA Red Hill response operations in Hawaii in early 2022.

Grape Microbiota

CSS was selected to develop an experiment payload to examine the effect of microgravity throughout the various stages of wine fermentation.

Analysis for Coastal Operational Resiliency

CSS assisted with planning and executing a demonstration of three decontamination technologies on a USCG vessel contaminated with a benign surrogate for anthrax.
